Camp Dread  (formerly known as Dead TV) is an American horror film written and directed by Harrison Smith (6 Degrees of HellZombie Killers: Elephant’s Graveyard). It stars Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Danielle Harris (Halloween, Stake Land, Hatchet II), Felissa Rose, Kyle Patrick Brennan (6 Degrees of Hell), Ashley Caspermeyer (The Bates Haunting), Nicole Cinaglia (Hallows’ Eve), Apryl Crowell (Dracula’s War), Brian Gallagher, Gnomi Gre, Alexander Mandell, Montana Marks, Angel Anthony Marrero, Susan Moses, Joe Raffa.

The film is released by Image Entertainment in the North America  on April 15 and the UK on June 2.

Plot:

The “Summer Camp” horror trilogy was one of the most popular franchises of the 1980s. However, the decade ended and so did director/writer Julian Barrett’s career. Now Barrett has a plan to resurrect “Summer Camp” in a modern reboot that entails using a reality show as its template and source of fundraising. Should it succeed Barrett would once again be at the helm. Bringing together an eclectic group of young “contestants” as well as his former stars Rachel Steele and John Hill, Barrett seems to have put together a sure fire recipe for success. Then people start dying. For real. And “elimination” takes on a whole new meaning as “Dead.tv” clearly shows the slasher film has grown up…

Reviews:

… campfire horror done right. Like Friday the 13th (and unlike most of its predecessors) it’s filled with likable assholes who meet their demise in an extremely gory fashion. Monsterman’s Cleve Hall supplies the over the top and visceral gore which echoes back to Savini’s more tactile kills from the first F13 and The Burning. Though the twist is modern, there’s a lot of old school slasher goodness at play at Camp Dread!” Ambush Bug, Ain’t It Cool News

Camp Dread goes through the beats of a typical slasher, but what’s interesting is that Barrett’s true intentions remain cloudy throughout all the impaling and throat gashing. Does this prick expect to sell this as a “Summer Camp” reboot when kids are dying for real on camera? Does he even know they’re really dying? Who put up the million dollar prize money? All this shit keeps you guessing until the final minutes. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the 88 minutes leading up the revelations to be all that interesting or entertaining.” Patrick-Cooper, Bloody Disgusting

Camp-Dread-image

“With names like Danielle Harris, Felissa Rose, and Eric Roberts attached to a film, one would naturally expect some pretty great performances. Surprisingly though, the best acting was done by the lesser known stars who made up the group of unsuspecting youths. With the exception of one or so deliveries, everyone seemed rather natural, making for a better viewing experience, overall.” Frank Fulci, Repulsive Reviews

“In the end the kills are too modest, the gore is almost non-existent, the dialogue is ridiculous and the direction is amateur. We even get an overtly obvious red herring killer-who’s-not-the-killer. This is a lot of genre cliches packed into one and half hour’s of patience-thinning substandard horror.” Ryan Larson, Shock Till You Drop

“Gorehounds, take note:  there are some very nice goodies waiting for you here (practical effects, guys!); granted, with the aforementioned character development, it takes a bit to get to it, but it’s made all the more valuable once you get there.  I have to say, this flick has oneparticular kill scene that I’ve never seen before; and at no time does the grue disappoint.” Andrew Thompson, Legless Corpse

Unable to describe what happened to her during the moments she was underwater, Madison begins to develop hydrophobia: an abnormal fear of water. Crippled by her post trauma, Madison attempts to shut out the world around her but, her fear intensifies when she begins to be haunted by the vision of an evil figure. After watching her struggle for over a year, Madison’s four friends stage an intervention in a desperate attempt to help. Reviews:

“Lo-fi, ambitious and hypnotic, the film is certainly meant for those with giallo-inclined taste and previous experience. Sonno Profondo unfolds largely from the killer’s POV (though it’s not found footage), giving a sort of constricting tunnel vision feel. This is heavy, specific style and it wants you to strap in.” Samuel Zimmermann, Fangoria

What We Do in the Shadows is a 2014 New Zealand horror comedy film about a group of vampires who live together in Wellington, New Zealand. It was directed and written by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who also star in the film. The remainder of the cast are: Jonathan Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford, Jackie Van Beek, Ben Fransham.

What We Do in the Shadows is based on a 2006 short film of the same name by Waititi and Clement. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014.

Official synopsis:

Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) – three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life’s obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts…

what-we-do-in-the-shadows-trio

Reviews:

“takes pleasure in poking fun at various aspects of vampire lore, but not surprisingly (given the filmmakers), What We Do in the Shadows is more deadpan, clever, and silly than it is simple, “schticky,” or mean-spirited. And while Shadows is most assuredly a full-fledged comedy in horror clothing, fans of the darker genre will certainly enjoy how colorfully gory the movie gets during some of the best visual gags.” Scott Weinberg, FEARnet

“Some genre fans who prefer the silly to the satiric may bite, but the anemic pic isn’t remotely weird or witty enough for cult immortality. Feeling eternal at 87 minutes, the film introduces a rival gang of G-rated werewolves (“We’re werewolves, not swearwolves!”) and drags its way to the Unholy Masquerade Ball, populated by hard-partying vampires as well as zombies — the movie’s final act of desperation.” Rob Nelson, Variety

what-we-do-in-the-shadows-sundance-4

“It’s also as silly as it is smart, unloading plenty of easy gross-out gags involving gushing blood and projectile vomiting plus some token childish moments — a character audibly masturbating from inside his coffin, for example — and some the movie gets away with by having its characters act immaturely in spite of their ages ranging in the hundreds to thousands of years … There’s always a smart bit within seconds of something stupid.” Christopher Campbell, Film School Rejects

“If there is any justice, What We Do in the Shadows, will break out into the light of day as a crossover hit. This film is absolutely hysterical, came as a complete surprise to me, and even breathes life back into the withering corpse of the doc-comedy style of The Office.” Ed Travis, Cinapse

Dead on Appraisal is a 2014 comedy horror anthology film produced by Infested Films and directed by Sean CanfieldScott Dawson and David Sherbrook. It stars Zack FaheyMike PfaffMarguerite Insolia, Anthony Berhle, James Howell, R. Daniel Long, Nicholas Leonard, Luke Bishop, Michael Brouillet, Laura Owen, Russell Maltz, Keith Lewis,

The film is comprised of three stories: “The Morning After” and “Freddie and the Goblins” “Father Land” and, wraparound, “Closing Costs”.

Plot synopsis:

Real estate agent John Dante has a problem. He’s stuck with a house he can’t sell. Despite his best efforts, he can’t seem to overcome the house’s past and the macabre tales that precede it in this haunting anthology.

In “The Morning After”, a group of friends wake up from a party to find a nightmare in the form of the worst bug invasion any homeowner has ever seen. Then there’s Freddie Cooper and his band, “Freddie and the Goblins”; a tale of how Freddie’s band mates try to kick him out and get caught up in the young singer’s growing psychosis. With his hopes of selling the house fading, John is horrified to hear the story of Robbie, a young veteran of the war in Iraq, who returns home to live with his father Brad in “Father Land”. Something isn’t right, though, as Robbie’s dark secret slowly bubbles to the surface. As the house’s dark past comes to life, John becomes weary and is convinced the house is cursed and unsellable…

Reviews:

” … a hidden gem of indie horror comedy and for those of us that have any form of nostalgia for the goofy range of Full Moon films from the 90′s, and of course Troma lovers, this is a must-see. So in short, if you enjoy cheesy creature effects and gore-laden monster-ridden funhouse style films, Dead on Appraisal should shoot right to the top of your watch list.” Blood Sucking Geek

“The final few minutes of this movie are beyond spectacular.  As if the entire movie hasn’t been a blood soaked, gore infested thing of beauty these next few scenes escalate the awe factor from 6 to 666 to the tenth power.” Theron Moore, HorrorNews.net

dead-on-appraisal-afis-353x500

“The greatness of the film is revolved around the use of puppets to dish out the dastardly deeds in each story.  From the Slither style take over In The Morning After to the goblins in the last segment the puppets bring a great amount of candor to the movie.” Horror Movies Uncut

“This is not the most cleanly made or succinctly executed film. It’s rough around the edges and the low budget stuff many scoff at. Still Dead on Appraisal shows a lot of promise for the effects men and storytellers involved as they made a film that excels despite its shortcomings.” Ain’t It Cool News
