Dracula Untold (originally titled Dracula: Year Zero) is a 2014 American horror film produced by Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures and directed by Gary Shore from a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

It stars Luke Evans (The Raven; The Crow) as Vlad Tepes, the man who becomes the mythological bloodsucker Dracula, Sarah Gadon (The Moth Diaries) as Mirena, wife of Vlad, Dominic Cooper as Mehmed the Second, Samantha Barks as Baba Yaga, a beautiful woman who turns into an evil witch, Art Parkinson as Ingeras, son of Vlad/Dracula, Charlie Cox, William Houston, Ferdinand Kingsley, Noah Huntley, Dilan Gwyn, Zach McGowan, Ronan Vibert.

Location shooting took place in Northern Ireland. The film has a reported budget of 100 million dollars and the release date has been been pushed back a third time to October 17, 2014.

A group of five young friends travel from Los Angeles to exotic Panama for a week of partying in lush tropical paradise. Though the timing of it makes zero sense based on his age (according to the story), this guy adds a great sense of schizophrenic dread. Ju-on: Beginning of the End (呪怨: 終わりの始まり Ju-on: Owari no Hajimari) is an upcoming 2014 Japanese horror film and the seventh installment of the Ju-on franchise. The film was written and directed by Masayuki Ochiai (Infection; Shutter; Haunted School: The Curse of the Word Spirit) and produced by Takashige Ichinose. It stars Nozomi Sasaki, Sho Aoyagi, Reina Trendl, Miho Kanazawa, Haori Takahashi, Yuina Kuroshima, Misaki Saish, Kai Kobayashi, Yasuhito Hida.

The sequel is set to premiere on June 28, 2014 in Japan.

In Darkness We Fall – original title La cueva “The Cave” – is a 2014 Spanish found footage horror film co-produced, co-written (with Javier Gullón) and directed by Alfredo Montero. The movie had its world premiere on January 25, 2014 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and follows five friends that find that their decision to enter a remote cave may be their last. Hemlock Grove is an American, Netflix Original, horror thriller television series. The show is executive produced by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever; Hostel; The Green Inferno), developed by Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman. It is based on McGreevy’s novel Hemlock Grove (2012).

The show premiered April 19, 2013, with all thirteen episodes made immediately available for online viewing. On June 19, 2013, Netflix renewed Hemlock Grove for a second season.

Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania. The town is a mixture of extreme wealth and poverty, as the closing of the town’s steel mill many years earlier caused many to lose their jobs. The town’s main sources of employment are now the Hemlock Acres Hospital and Godfrey Institute for Biomedical Technologies. Run by the powerful Godfrey family, the Institute is rumored to conduct sinister experiments on a daily basis.

The town’s rumor mill turns even more twisted when two teenage girls are brutally killed and their bodies left for unsuspecting people to find the next day. Peter Rumancek, a 17-year-old gypsy, is suspected of the crimes by some of the townsfolk; he is also rumored to be a werewolf. While secretly he is a werewolf, he is not the killer, and, along with the heir to the Godfrey estate, Roman, he sets out to solve the mystery…

Pizza (Hindi: पिज़्ज़ा) is a 2014 Indian 3D Hindi supernatural thriller film written and directed by debutant, Akshay Akkineni. The film features Akshay Oberoi, Parvathy Omanakuttan and Dipannita Sharma in lead roles, while Arunoday Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Omkar Das Manikpuri and Sonali Sachdev play supporting roles. The film is a remake of the 2012 Tamil horror film hit, Pizza, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The critical and commercial success of the Tamil version led to its remakes in Kannada as Whistle and Bengali as Golpo Holeo Shotti. Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda is a 2014 American horror film directed by Kevin O’Neill (Dinocroc; Dinoshark) from a screenplay by Matt Yamashita (Art School of Horrors) for Roger Corman’s New Horizons Pictures. It stars Robert Carradine (Humanoids from the Deep (1996); Monster Night; Slumber Party Slaughter), Katie Savoy, Rib Hillis (Piranhaconda; 616: Paranormal Incident; Cowboys vs Dinosaurs), Tony Evangelista, Hector Then, Hensy Pichardo.

The film is one of two sequels to the hit Sharktopus, the other being Sharktopus vs. Mermantula, also directed by O’Neill. It is due to be screened by Syfy in July as part of their ‘Sharknado’ festival to celebrate sharksploitation in general and the unleashing of Sharknado 2: The Second One in particular.

The Worst of Eerie Publications

in September 2014, IDW Publishing/Yoe Books are re-publishing some of the most gruesome and gory moments from Eerie Publications’ horror comics in a collection gathered together by Mike Howlett.

Eerie Publications was a publisher of black-and-white horror-anthology comics magazines such as Horror Tales; Terror Tales; Terrors of Dracula; Witches’ Tales and Tales of Voodoo. Less well-known and more downscale than the field’s leader, Warren Publishing (Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella), the New York City-based company was one of several related publishing ventures run by comic-book artist and 1970s magazine entrepreneur Myron Fass. They even sneaked in reprinted tales from the pre-Comics Code Authority days.

Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide Part Two, Draconian Days is a 2014 British documentary film co-directed by Jake West and Marc Morris. It is released on July 14, 2014.

Sharks on land! Hunting victims from just below the earth’s surface! Yes, you heard that right… prehistoric sharks are on the attack in Arkansas. And a shapely work gang from the women’s prison there suddenly find themselves at the center of the terrifying situation.

A local fracking crew has accidently cracked open a section of the earth’s mantle, allowing a swarm of prehistoric land sharks to head upwards from an underground ocean in search of new victims. So after a suspenseful escape, the five gorgeous prisoners find themselves not only on the run from the law… but a horde of blood thirsty hell bent creatures as well. Trapped in a remote fishing cabin hundreds of miles from civilisation, the curvy quintet must use both their wits and wiles to elude the jaws of death swimming just outside in the front yard.

You’ll meet Honey, a fiery spinner armed with a smokin’ pair of .38s. Standing close by is her lover Anita, at once both sexy and psychotic. Shannon is the sweet, girl-next-door type… that is if you happen to live next door to a mental institution. Michelle is the girl from the ghetto, street-wise and savvy beyond her years. And finally there’s Sarah, the demolition expert; she’ll blow your mind if you get too close! All five will have to bury their own petty hatred for each other in order to survive…

Grisly is a 2014 American sci-fi horror short film project directed by Graham Cribbin. It stars Jaimi Paige and Jeison Azali.

Grisly captures a portion of a much larger universe of supernatural characters that will be expanded on in the Grisly Tales web-series planned for release later this year. The production team have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding to finalise the short film.

Carolyn Bronnicke, is a young woman who has mysteriously transformed into a mutated Gill Girl and is captured by ACS/M-Division, a secret government black-ops facility led by Director Christopher Smalls.

Assigned to review her case is Agent Milo Finn of the CIA. As Agent Finn conducts his review of the case he discovers a secret shop of horrors at ACS where Director Smalls has approved the torture and  of Carolyn/Gill Girl led by his henchmen Prof. Matthew Lamb and Sgt. Alex Stevens…

The Mummy Resurrected is a 2014 American horror film directed by Patrick McManus from a screenplay by Joanne Spring. It stars Stuart Rigby, Lauren Bronleewe, Elizabeth Friedman, Bailey Gaddis, Iyad Hajjaj, Fouad Hajji, Mark Naji, Pablo Time Nuñez, Jessie Paddock, Alena Savostikova, Sarah Schreiber.

Plot teaser:

A group of archaeologists uncover a long lost pyramid in the middle of the Egyptian desert. Believing the pyramid to be full of ancient treasures, the group decides to explore. Little do they know that their actions are about to awaken an ancient evil….

Review:

If you can accept a lead – Brit Stuart Rigby – who appears to read his lines rather than act them, a gaggle of young female archaeologists (hey, they all happen to be attractive) who “like” talk and “like” behave in the dimmest ways possible, lacklustre special effects and no attention to detail (in the closing credits Libyan is incorrectly spelt… three times!), then you might tolerate this. A mercifully short running time and a better than expected mummy are the film’s two plus points.

“Well, if you happen to be that type of indiscriminate viewer who overlooks a script only doing the bare minimum to constitute a plot, who forgives poorly conceived visual FX because the animators had limited resources, and who gives the director credit simply for producing a completed film, then maybe you will find The Mummy Resurrected to be tolerable.  But if you demand at least some modicum of relative quality no matter the budget, scope, or production’s backstory, then you will have a hard time mustering any respect for a movie that refuses to respect you back.” Culture Crypt

“While this movie has an interesting back story and plot, it is lost mostly in shaky camera work and questionable acting at best. It is a real shame because the timing is right for the mummy story to return to the big screen, unfortunately just not with this movie. The cinematography by Emmett Callinan, who also took care of the Electrical Department [and co-produced - Ed.] is quite uneven and inconsistent and the musical score by a compilation of people does little to boost this movies flagging disregard for the viewers intelligence.” Cryptic Rock

Wax is a 2014 Spanish horror film co-written and directed by Víctor Matellano. It stars Jack Taylor (Count Dracula; Female Vampire; Horror of the Zombies), Geraldine Chaplin, Jimmy Shaw, Lone Fleming (Tombs of the Blind Dead; A Candle for the Devil; The Possessed) and the voice of the late horror icon Paul Naschy (as an automaton).

Plot teaser:

A young journalist is employed to spend a night at Barcelona’s Wax Museum, where paranormal activities are supposed to be taking place. He must record everything happening there. In the museum there are different wax figures including one of Dr. Knox, a sadist cannibal surgeon who loves dressing up as Vincent Price in House of Wax. Soon, the journalist begins to feel he is not alone….
